Resurrection MCC is our spiritual home. Here, people from all walks of life, diverse spiritual backgrounds, and even those with no religious experience at all, come together to find kinship, family, and a deeper connection with God’s love. Our community thrives on the belief that everyone belongs, and that God is continually at work in us—creating, loving, comforting, and challenging us to grow. As we experience this season of significant change in leadership, grounding ourselves in these beliefs becomes even more crucial.
The transition of a Senior Pastor is one of the most profound changes any church can experience. It’s a moment filled with anticipation, hope, and perhaps a bit of uncertainty. But within this change lies an incredible opportunity—an opportunity to reflect on our journey, reassess our vision, and reaffirm the values that have guided us thus far. Our vision is the heartbeat of our church, a living reflection of who we are and who we aspire to be as a community. It’s the compass that keeps us aligned with God’s purpose, ensuring that as we grow and evolve, we remain true to our mission of being a spiritual home where everyone can find a sense of belonging.
The Power of Our Vision
At Resurrection MCC, belonging is a lived experience. Our vision is deeply rooted in the commitment to create a space where everyone feels at home. This sense of belonging is what draws people to our community and keeps us connected to one another and to God. However, as we move through this season of change, it’s essential to remember that our vision, like our community, must be open to growth and transformation. Just as God is continually working in us, our vision must be dynamic, reflecting the ongoing work God is doing among us.
One of the most powerful aspects of Resurrection MCC is its diversity—spiritual, cultural, and experiential. This diversity is who we are. Our vision must speak to this diversity, embracing it as a strength that enriches our fellowship and deepens our collective journey into God’s love. As we seek new leadership, we are also seeking new ways to live out this vision, ensuring that it remains relevant and life-giving for all who call Resurrection MCC their spiritual home.
Change can be unsettling, but it also offers an opportunity for growth. It’s important to remember that we are not discarding the past but about building on it, ensuring that our vision continues to guide us as we navigate new challenges and embrace new opportunities.
One of the key questions we must ask ourselves is: What does it mean to be a spiritual home in today’s world? How can we continue to be a place of refuge, comfort, and community while also being a beacon of hope and love in a world that is constantly changing? These are not easy questions, but they are necessary ones. They challenge us to think deeply about our mission and purpose and consider how we can continue to grow in our ability to walk with others into the depths of God’s love.
Another important aspect of this process is recognizing the ways in which our vision might need to evolve. Are there practices or traditions that no longer serve our mission? Are there new opportunities for ministry that we have yet to explore? What are the areas of our congregational life that excite us, and where do we see the need for change? These are the kinds of questions that will help us refine and revitalize our vision, ensuring that it continues to be a source of inspiration and guidance for our community.
A Vision for the Future
As we move forward, it’s important to remember that our vision is not just about what we do but about who we are becoming. It’s about being open to the new things God is doing among us and being willing to step into the unknown with faith and courage. Our vision must be flexible enough to adapt to the changes in our leadership and our community, while also being rooted in the core values that have always defined Resurrection MCC—a commitment to being a spiritual home where everyone can find belonging, fellowship, and a deeper relationship with God.
This is a moment of transformation for our church, a time when we are being called to look deeply into our vision and consider how it aligns with where God is leading us now. As we seek our next Senior Pastor, let us also seek a renewed vision—one that reflects the fullness of God’s love, the richness of our diversity, and the hope we carry for the world.
Together, we can embrace this opportunity to see with fresh eyes, to dream new dreams, and to walk boldly into the future God has prepared for us. Resurrection MCC is a community of people committed to walking together, deeper and deeper into God’s love. And as we continue this journey, we do so with the confidence that God is with us, guiding us, shaping us, and calling us to be a light in the world.
In a world that is increasingly fragmented, our commitment to being a place of unity, love, and acceptance is more critical than ever. As we navigate this season of change, let’s hold fast to the belief that our church is not defined by a single leader or even a single vision statement. Instead, it is defined by the people who make up this community, the love we share, and the faith that binds us together. Our vision should reflect this collective identity, one that is ever-evolving but always rooted in the unchanging love of God.
Let us seek to be a community that continues to be a place of refuge, fellowship, and deep spiritual connection. Together, we can embrace this season of transformation, confident that God is with us, guiding us every step of the way. Let our vision shine brightly, leading us ever closer to the heart of God and to the future He has prepared for Resurrection MCC.
The past two Sundays have included vibrant and energizing conversations on vision-engagement opportunity with Rev. Dr. Darren Phelps, to which your voice is needed and is being heard. There is one more session, which is a virtual opportunity for our online presence and for our current membership; please take this opportunity to be part of the change and have a chance to be heard and offer your vision for our church family. Starting in September, we will begin our preaching series titled” Stories of Resilience”. What’s yours?
Blessing you in your ministry,
