From the Heart to Action

From the Heart to Action

This past Sunday, we celebrated the fourth and final official week of our Extravagant Generosity Campaign. We have had a month’s worth of messages focused on teaching us what Extravagant Generosity means in general, and how we can relate to this theme individually, with the end goal of demonstrating, after thoughtful consideration, how we can each give generously to our church community.

One facet of the campaign was the availability of the short daily readings from the Grace of Giving Devotional Guide. I am sure many of those readings gave you pause and maybe stirred your heart about what generosity means to you and how you can be more generous.

Further, the EG campaign gave us the opportunity to participate in fellowship groups either in person or online; it was wonderful that so many took these sessions as chances to share what is on our hearts and how RMCC can be a stronger positive influence on us as individuals and on our community.

Our sermon series started with Rev. Jeffrey Campbell sharing that giving comes from the heart, and encouraging us to complete “Heart Cards” each week where we could answer in our own words what we (1) loved most about our church, (2) who in our church family has made a difference in your church life, and (3) what is your vision and hope for our church? Other sermons from our Pastor Candace Shultis spoke about the art of love and that relationships are matters of the heart… which can also apply to how we can each grow our relationship with our church. In week three, congregant DeJuana Jernigan shared her vision and hope for RMCC.

Today, Rev. Campbell wrapped up the series with a strong summary of what Extravagant Generosity can mean for us individually and as a congregation. He said that through prayer and listening to God, we need to decide individually and collectively where we need to show up to help our church grow and be restored; commitment cards are about money, but our sitting in the pews or listening online is not about money. If you are here, and you believe, you have been sent with a purpose. Look for opportunities to serve in this ministry and community. Listen to the voice of God!” He reminded us that RMCC is a very loving church with a long history and a promising future, but the work will not get done on its own. Choose to be a part of the positive change available to us as individuals and as a community!

As we wind up the Extravagant Generosity campaign, we now have a great opportunity to show gratitude for what our church provides to so many and, importantly, to provide funds and resources to enable our ministries to continue and grow. We highly encourage everyone to complete a Commitment Card. These can be mailed to the church office, put in the collection plate at service, or submitted online using the link HERE. These notices of commitment will allow us to properly plan to uphold our Mission and Vision, dedicate the required resources to our ministries, and further our ability to demonstrate Love in Action.
