Loved First: The Heart of Hands & Feet Collective

Hands and Feet Collective Ministry:

John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that God gave the one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. God sent the Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through Him. (The Inclusive Bible)

These scriptures were chosen as the foundational scriptures for Hands and Feet Collective to remind us each time we meet that God and Jesus Love us. They remind us that the foundation of our faith is love rather than condemnation.

Jesus said “God so loved the world”. Exploring the word Love – Google gives the definition: “a selfless action-oriented commitment characterized by mutual respect, trust, and unconditional support rather than just a fleeting emotion”. This is wonderful news to us believers because it supports the statement that Jesus and God love us no matter what and will meet us where we are in life. This verse also confirms that Jesus and God loved us FIRST – before we loved them. One of my favorite sayings is “God has been better to me than I have ever been to myself”. As humans, we often think “if everything is going well, and the way we want it to go”, then we are happy, easy to love, and it is easy to give love. BUT – when things are not going the way we want, we can become not so loving or understanding. Thanks be to God and Jesus for loving us first!

Lets focus on the ending of verse 16 which says “whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life”. In this crazy world, where it is “show, prove and or earn everything”, Jesus and God showed the world a love that it had never seen before – by giving us everlasting life before making us show, prove or earn anything. Just by believing in them, they give us their love and power. Verse 16 is amazing all by itself, but verse 17 was included in our founding scriptures because the world will sometimes paint Jesus and God as not so loving, as a condemning God. Jesus said himself that he “came to save”, not to judge or condemn. This is why these verses were chosen. We plan to visit these verses every time we meet to remind us why we are here and to spread the love that was spread on us FIRST!

Our collective focuses on uplifting the message of Christ through COMPASSION, COMMUNITY AND SERVICE. Come join us in the Gathering Place on the First Sunday of the Month immediately after service to spread the love of Christ, to join together in fellowship and community, and to enjoy food, games, and Jesus together! We hope to serve in the community as a group, with a few projects per year, and fundraisers for RMCC. I am looking forward to seeing you there.

Yours in Christ’s Service,

Hazel McWashington
