| When I Googled “fear of giving,” I received the following response: “The ‘fear of giving’ can manifest in multiple ways, ranging from anxiety over finding the perfect present to a deep-rooted reluctance to donate money or emotional vulnerability. Often stemming from perfectionism, financial anxiety, or a fear of rejection, it is a surprisingly common hurdle.” I focused on one reason, the one I experienced when I first thought of giving a recurring donation (both here at church and to charitable donations at my workplace) Financial Scarcity: When it comes to charitable giving or helping others, many hesitate for fear that they lack the resources to secure their own future. This usually requires a shift in mindset from scarcity to abundance. I think this is a fear that many folks confront when considering making a recurring gift. “What if…” I overcame my fear by actually looking at my personal budget. I found a lot of wasteful spending, especially impulse buying. For me, it was simply a matter of prioritizing. By doing that, I was able to start making commitments to giving on a recurring basis. I found that once I made a commitment and stuck with it, my budget and spending adjusted to being fine without that little bit of money. This exercise also enabled me to realign my spending so that I could afford things that I really wanted to do or buy. It was an overall gift to myself, not just those to whom I was giving. As I have noted before, our 2026 budget projects a $91,057 shortfall. The Pastoral Search Committee is making steady, deliberate progress in finding us a new Senior Pastor. There are repairs we need to make to our facilities to keep them operational and a continued home for the many activities that take place on our campus. So now is the time for all of us to step up. Overcome our reluctance. Some are due to perceived financial insecurity, and, to be honest, some are reluctant to give on a recurring basis until they see what happens with a new Senior Pastor, our facilities, and our congregation. “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things…” Luke 10:41. I, like many of you, am committed to the future of Resurrection Metropolitan Community Church. RMCC gave me a church home and family, and renewed my faith and walk with the Lord. I believe in the future of RMCC and know the positive impact it will have on the lives of those to come. “Optimism is a strategy for making a better future. Because unless you believe that the future can be better, you are unlikely to step up and take responsibility for making it so.” ― Noam Chomsky This Sunday, May 31, we will be available in the Gathering Place to assist anyone who wants to set up a recurring giving account. I hope you’ll stop by. Sincerely, ![]() Bill Russell Treasurer RMCC Board of Directors |
