Be Patient Siblings

Be Patient Siblings
Be patient, then, my siblings, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. –James 5:7

Patience is hard. Waiting is hard. Lord knows, we know that here at Resurrection! Can I hear an “amen”? So many times, we have waited. While the waters and winds calm so we can re-enter our campus; while the floors cure and the paint dries so we can worship in our Sanctuary again; while the insurance money arrives so we can repair our homes; while the embryo forms into completeness so we can welcome the newborn; while the test results are measured so we can know the next step toward our healing.

And to hit especially close to home – while our next Senior Pastor finds the way to Resurrection.

We have done all we know to do. We have advertised, we have networked, we have hired consultants, we have received and reviewed and rejected applications, we have hired a gap pastor who extended her stay, we have invited guest preachers to consider applying, and still, we remain in the neutral territory of operating our church without a Senior Pastor.

We remain steadfast to our covenant, and with continued patience, we wait, and we keep seeking.

Above all, we must trust. We must trust each other, we must trust in our congregation, and we must trust our God. As we seek a new Senior Pastor, we are caused to ask, “What are we really looking for?” Are we looking for someone to preach sermons, to lead the Board of Directors, to uphold the vision, mission, and values of Resurrection? Of course we are! But we are really looking for a lot more than that, aren’t we? We are looking for leadership to help us grow in relationship to Jesus, the exemplar of love, the gateway to God. “Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.” — Psalm 9:10

Realizing this, the waiting and the call for patience become lighter burdens. We can envision the valuable crop after the nourishing rains. We can rest assured in knowing that we are not forsaken but blessed beyond measure by all we have and all there is to come.
