Collective Liberation: Dreaming Into Becoming

Collective Liberation

“There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why… I dream of things that never were and ask why not?” — Robert F. Kennedy

Dreamers are visionaries. Dreamers see what is possible. Dreamers envision a future that is different from the past. Dreamers motivate us.

And if we do not have a dream for a different future, we will just keep doing what we’ve been doing and expect different results. Sometimes it is good to be shaken out of our complacency and learn new ways of relating to one another.

Our Collective Liberation Retreat on January 24 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM offers us an opportunity to do just that.

It will be a space for building a stronger sense of belonging at Resurrection MCC. We’ll engage with questions of inclusion and equity through storytelling, skill-building, and shared meaning-making. It feels important to me because I want RMCC to:

· better understand the power dynamics that impact our culture and decision-making;

· understand how race and racism exist in our church family;

· have some shared language about how race works in seen and unseen ways;

· be a safe(r) space for people living in various intersectional identities; and

· step into our power as a multiracial congregation.

Two things: First, please take time to fill out the survey. HERE

We are closing the survey on January 12, so it’s important to do this soon so we can have good data for the retreat.

Second, please register for the retreat by following this link: Collective Liberation: Dreaming into Becoming – Resurrection MCC

I truly believe that this can be a life-changing, congregation-changing event. We will be led by Evangeline Weiss and Nicole Thomas from Beyond Conflict and will also be joined by Reverends Cathy Alexander and Dexter Brecht from MCC.

A light lunch will be provided.

I hope you will plan to join us!
