Continue the Journey With Us When I moved to N.Y. for a spell, I sang in one of the most iconic churches there. I enjoyed singing classical and soft gospel at this church. When a fellow singer found out I was from the South, she wanted to hear me sing gospel, like we do in the South. She wanted to hear that down-home gospel – bluesy sound- with all the dips, turns, and minor modalities. Something I had always taken for granted suddenly became a high commodity. Songs like âI Love the Lord, He Heard My CryâŠâ (you know the rest). And âTis the Olâ Ship of Zionâ. And that gut-felt moan thatâs done when they say, âSatan doesnât know what you are saying, but God certainly does.â My theology has evolved since those days as a youth growing up in church, but every time I hear one of those old songs, my soul leaps and marvels at âHow I Got Overâ. Thatâs why Iâm excited about The Gospel Ensembleâs concert. I look forward to my soul leaping in song as we Continue the Journey to Hallelujah. Set your calendar to attend with me on Saturday, February 3rd at 5:00 pm. We got some leapin’ to do!
