“Faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.” — Epistle of James 2:17
Faith is more than something we profess on Sunday mornings; it´s something we live every day. It is found in the quiet acts of kindness we offer our neighbors, the compassion we extend to strangers, and the generosity we show when others are suffering. Our RMCC reflects the beautiful diversity of Houston and the United States, where people of many traditions come together. That diversity is a gift from God, reminding us that we are one human family, called to love one another without boundaries.
In recent days, our hearts have been heavy as we have witnessed the tragic loss of life caused by the devastating earthquake in Venezuela. Families have lost loved ones, homes have been destroyed, and entire communities now face the difficult journey of rebuilding. In moments like these, it is easy to feel powerless. Yet Scripture reminds us that every act of compassion matters. A prayer offered in faith, a word of encouragement, and a financial gift can become instruments of hope in God’s hands.
As followers of Christ, we are invited to respond with generous hearts. If you are able, consider supporting relief efforts through the humanitarian organization you trust most. Whether your gift is large or small, it becomes a tangible expression of God’s love for those who are hurting. Our generosity is not measured by the amount we give, but by the willingness of our hearts to care for our neighbors across borders and cultures.
This year also marks the 250th anniversary of the United States—a significant milestone that invites both celebration and reflection. Throughout our nation’s history, people from every corner of the world have contributed their talents, faith, perseverance, and dreams to build stronger communities. Our congregation is part of that ongoing story. We celebrate the freedoms we enjoy while recognizing the responsibility that accompanies them: to seek justice, practice mercy, welcome the stranger, and serve those in need.
As we honor this anniversary, may we remember that the greatest strength of our nation has always been found in people who choose compassion over indifference, generosity over fear, and hope over despair. These are also the values at the heart of the Gospel.
May our faith continue to inspire our actions, our prayers lead us to service, and our generosity become a blessing to those who need it most. Together, let us be living witnesses of Christ’s love, bringing light wherever there is darkness and hope wherever hearts are broken.
