I Heart Giving Day Life is like a roller coaster sometimes. In a matter of 48 hours I went from dreaming with my wife Claire and walking the beautiful University of Delaware campus to sitting vigil with one of my dearest friends as the Leukemia finally took its toll. I lost my friend Annette Beall on Saturday night. She was a singularly profound spirit, a person of deep character, and genuine love for others, and I cherished her friendship. And …. MAN could she sing! This roller coaster we call life has smooth and rough parts, and we don’t always know what is coming. Whether the roller coaster reflects our own choices, others’ choices, or the whims of nature, the reality of our mortality (I really didn’t mean to rhyme there) is a rock-solid reminder that we must live every day focused on loving and caring for each other. As Claire and I walked the University of Delaware campus, we came across a sign about UD “Giving Day”. The sign was simply I <3 (Heart”) UD, with a QR code which led to their I Heart UD Giving Day. [If interested, check out givingday.udel.edu] From there they ask “What causes are YOU fighting for?” Scrolling down you see a list of “PASSIONS” that are broad and all encompassing. I was so impressed with such a simple ad. Of course I went straight to “Diversity Initiatives”, but other “PASSIONS” included worldwide initiatives like “Environment and Climate change”, and “Public Policy & Global Citizenship”. This was a straightforward, simple to navigate, and POWERFUL way to encourage and teach giving! It assumes that you are already fighting for causes and makes it easy to get connected. This brought me around to our very own ministry initiatives. We GIVE where our Heart, our “PASSION” our “fight” is. Where is your Heart? Where is your “Passion”? What are YOU fighting for? I scanned the Mobilizer and want to highlight just a few opportunities to GIVE your time, passion, and funds to the causes YOU are fighting for! If I don’t list one that “moves” you, be sure to scan through the whole Mobilizer to find YOUR Cause! Is your “PASSION” Fellowship and community? Check out our Pride Month events ( all 3 of them!), OWLS game day, Next Gen Discipleship series “Bearing the Fruits of the Spirit”, check out our online community book study “The Stonewall Reader, or attend choir rehearsal on Thursday evening. If you are not a member, consider attending our “Finding Home” class on June 8th to learn all about Resurrection and the UFMCC, and if it is a fit, become a member. Just look for the buttons below. Is your “PASSION” changing the world around us? Join us for the film screening “Plastic Earth” on International Plastic Free Day, May 25th, interact with our Lay Delegates on Sunday, May 18th, as they present information and answer questions about the UFMCC General Conference in July, or register and attend the conference—just see more information below! Is your “PASSION” legacy, and paying forward? To make sure the RMCC ministry is here and healthy for future generations, consider serving on our Board of Directors by offering talents in administration, jurisprudence, accounting, fundraising, communication, and business management. Our 53rd Anniversary Giving continues through the month of May. If you have not given a special Anniversary Gift, please do so. I find giving monetarily is easy and rewarding, as it takes so little effort yet has such a profound impact. Scroll down and check out our General Fund Giving Report; you will see our need. Please give a special offering to get us back to where we need to be for the year! AND, is your “PASSION” spiritual growth? There are no fewer than 8 different spiritual growth offerings, both in person and online, biblical and secular, in English and in Spanish, some book format, others guest speakers. Really – check it out below! One of the things my friend Annette taught me was that our spiritual self, the Holy Spirit within us that drives us to seek the divine, needs care and needs to be shared. I know you can find a way to feed your soul here at Resurrection, to see the causes you are fighting for, and to bring your gifts to serve others. I LOVE that we care for and reach out to so many, in such diverse and accessible ways. I am proud to serve on your Board, and I hope you will take the step of connecting with Resurrection in a new and impactful way. Blessings and I hope you <3 (Heart) Giving! |
