| In the Midst of Pastoral Transition 🙌 |
| Greetings, Resurrection MCC. Today, I stand before you with two goals: To provide you with an update on the Pastoral Search Committee and to extend an offer of service to you. Before I get started, I will tell you that in my first draft of this update, I was going to share with you some data about where churches in the United States stand when it comes to calling a new pastor. But with data comes the need for slides/ visuals…yeah, no. I changed my mind and just decided to tell you that we are not alone, Resurrection. We, like 20 other Metropolitan Community Churches, are in the midst of pastoral transition; that is, approximately 10% of the denomination finds itself in this same position. Here is the update for you on the PSC committee. The board of directors has decided to restructure/ revamp the committee. You may ask why? Here are the reasons: 1. After thoughtful consideration, we had several members leave the committee. Life brings about changes and challenges, and each of us has to make decisions that are best for us individually, as well as our families. This work can be tedious. 2. And to ensure proper alignment with our bylaws. Our next step is to open up the application process. This restructuring gives us the opportunity to build an even stronger search process, incorporating best practices and lessons learned. We anticipate this will typically be a 9-18-month process once the new committee is formed. However, we are led by the spirit to do what is best for God’s people. Submitted applications will be reviewed, with the possibility of follow-up interviews. We are looking for 5 dedicated members from the congregation for the Pastoral Search Committee. These are some of the desired skills for members of the Pastoral Search Committee: ● Communication Skills ● Analytical and Assessment Skills ● Organizational and Administrative Skills ● Spiritual Discernment ● Interpersonal and Collaborative Skills During this season of waiting, we once again heed the words of the prophet Isaiah. “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.They will soar on wings like eagles;they will run and not grow weary,they will walk and not be faint.” When we soar, we pray regularly for our church, our future Senior Pastor, and the new congregants called to serve on the Pastoral Search Committee. When we run, we stay the course, stay focused on the goal. When we walk, we move through the challenging times. The application process is now open.
