Letting Go to Grow in Faith |
“For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but power, love and self-discipline.” — 2 Timothy 1:7 There comes a time in every season of faith when we are called to release what we’ve been holding onto. It might be control, resentment, worry, or even an old pile of clothes in the corner that we keep meaning to take to Goodwill. Letting go is part of our spiritual growth. It is how we make space for God to move and for something new to begin. As a new deacon, I am entering a new season of service with both gratitude and excitement. I feel blessed to walk with our Resurrection family, to listen, to pray, and to serve in any way that I can. Sunday’s service reminded me that before we can embrace new growth, we often must release something old. In 2 Timothy, Paul writes to Timothy with the heart of a mentor who knows it is time to let go. He passes the torch and encourages Timothy to trust the Spirit within him. That right there was not only an act of love, but an act of faith as well. Paul’s example invites us to ask ourselves: What is it that we can do so that we may better walk with God? And if that question makes me feel anxious, I just remember 1 Peter 5:7: “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” For me, this isn’t just a comforting thought; it’s a personal invitation. God doesn’t want me to carry these burdens alone. He wants me to hand them over, trusting that God will take care of them. Letting go isn’t giving up; it’s choosing to walk with Christ unburdened, confident that God’s care is greater than any worries I may ever have. And as I release what I cannot carry, I find that God’s love carries me, and God’s strength sustains me in ways I could never imagine on my own. Before you go into the rest of your week, take a breath. Pause. Selah. Let God’s peace guide your steps and remind you that you are never carrying anything alone. ![]() Deacon Caitlin Hernandez (She/Her/Hers) Read full newsletter HERE |
