WE are built for this! We ARE built for this! We are BUILT for this! We are built FOR this! We are built for THIS! That phrase seemed to be a well woven phrase on Sunday! As I was getting ready to journey my way to our church on Sunday, I attended church online services with two other congregations whom I thoroughly enjoy. Both congregations are progressive Baptist churches and do a fine job connecting their congregants and community with intergenerational ministry. One of the churches is in Virginia and the other here in Houston. Then, I arrived at our church on Sunday only to hear it woven into the sermon. God is amazing! Now, I question you. Are YOU built for THIS? We are in a time of change. Not only in our church but, in our nation and world. There are many of us who are still going through the process of acceptance with last week’s election, getting ready for the upcoming holidays and there are many of us who are simply and eagerly preparing for 2025. As I reminisced on Sunday, these penned lyrics came to mind: “Time is filled with swift transition. Whatsoever years may bring. Building your hopes on things eternal. Hold to God’s unchanging hand.” Transition is sometimes uncomfortable yet, it can be healthy. In the book of Exodus, we encounter the story of Moses. Moses faced many adversities since birth. He was placed in a basket, sent up a river to be discovered by some people who adopted him. He was a murderer, a prophet, had a speech impediment, an inspired author, a healer, a leader, a husband and a brother. With all these attributes and advisories, he proved himself to be one of the greatest leaders in the bible. There were times he doubted God, questioned God and almost gave up. Yet, he managed to live about 120 years listening and doing his best to be honorable to what God called him to do. To all those who attended Sunday’s congregational forum, thank you! Your presence mattered as we begin chartering the way for what’s next. It was a reminder that Resurrection’s work is not over. We still have work to do. Let’s keep going! We have a stewardship training of sorts on Saturday November 17th. If you want to know if “you are built for this” I encourage you to attend. 1 Corinthians 2:8-10 states: 8) None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9) However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love God — 10) These are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.” We have work to my friends! Let’s keep building together our hope and our future and show the world around us that we are built for this! Yours in Christ, Deacon Kedric J. Brown |
