Our People – Our Pride 🏳️🌈
Pride means very different things depending on our context, such as what’s happening in the world around us. Celebrations have been very different depending on the year and even the decade.
For years, we marched just to be visible and breathe out loud in public, trying to leave the closet and harassment behind. For years, we marched while lifting the names of those we loved and grieved because of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. For years, we marched to demand marriage equality.
More recently, we celebrated the first nighttime downtown march and the Supreme Court made marriage equality the law of the land. We invited our couples who were ready to come to the chapel to be married, and one week later, 70 couples did just that at Resurrection. Then a year later, we mourned the mass murder at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando with our float proclaiming, “We Are Pulse.”
We returned after a two-year COVID gap to celebrate being able to be together again and to remember Rev. Vickey Gibbs as an honorary Grand Marshall. And this year, we march amid many varied efforts to turn back time on the progress we have made for all of us and much hatred displayed in legislatures and on the streets, specifically against our transgender siblings.
It feels like we have to march again for our lives, reminding ourselves of God’s love during this All We Need is Love year. The world might be in chaos, but God’s love is constant. Sometimes with everything swirling, you just have to march and even dance a little.
Embracing God’s love,
Rev. Troy
PS: As we share our pride through our witness in the streets, we are also invited to Share Our Pride by inviting others to join us in worship and by updating or beginning generosity through recurring giving online! For assistance contact Terry@ResurrectionMCC.org.
