Epiphany

Epiphany

Epiphany, January 6, is widely celebrated in some parts of the world. I was visiting San Juan, Puerto Rico after Christmas one year and could not help but notice all of the three kings decorations. It is a day to remember the Magi who traveled a great distance to bring gifts to the Christ child and so, it is another day of gift giving rivaling Christmas. (Epiphany also celebrates the baptism of Jesus although this seems to take on less importance than the gift giving part.)

According to Webster’s Dictionary epiphanies are moments of sudden intuitive understanding or flashes of insight into something. They are also moments that manifest something more than what is ‘normal.’

Pulling all of those themes together: Do you know that as a result of your baptism you are a part of something larger than yourself? You are a member of the church universal, a person called apart to be a follower of Jesus, someone who is ‘different’ (read ‘not normal’). You are a special gift to the world! Maybe that is an epiphany for you!

May this year be a year when you manifest the love of Christ in all you do.
