| What a Joyful Noise! Although it has been a few days since the Gospel Ensemble graced us with their voices of praise and worship during the Continuing the Journey to Hallelujah concert held on the evening of February 3, I can still hear the sound of the sweet melodies ringing in my ear. Listen to the concert replay HERE. Then, on Sunday morning, we reflected on our core values of inclusion, community, spiritual transformation, and justice. These values help guide our actions for what we do every day in our efforts to be present for one another. We know that the struggle is real for many people. As Cole Arthur Riley says, “Seeing a person or piece of creation trampled should always disrupt something in us. It should always do something to the soul. And when you trace that trampling back across generations and systems and powers, a quiet sorrow is born in you.” When we work together, we turn sorrow into gladness, and we change lives for the better! As we continue celebrating African American history, let us be reminded of why history is so important. We look back on history to help us understand who we are as a people, as a community, and as a church. Let us remain steadfast in our work for justice and love. Together, we continue the journey towards freedom, relying on our collective strength and faith to see us through. We do not sacrifice our joy; instead, we embrace boldly who we are and why we are here on earth.
